To use the placeholder, you need to position a placeholder portlet in your page template that recalls the name of the portlet you have just created:
- Find the page template where you want to add the placeholder portlet to (see Finding documents)
- Click on the Content tab
- Add the placeholder portlet to the HTML of the page template
- Click on the Save button
To configure the content that appears in the placeholder portlet:
- Find the document that you want to add the placeholder portlet to (see Finding documents)
- Click on the Placeholder tab
- Click on the name of the placeholder you want to set content for
- If the placeholder is inheriting content, click on the Do not inherit content link
- Enter the HTML you want to set
- Click on the Save button
Placeholders inherit content from the folders above them in the document hierarchy. This means that if you have the same content in a placeholder for the whole site and it only changes in a specific page, you can set the common content in the root document and the specific content in the page that is different.
