Although the designer can be used to build several different types of view and in each case it adopts a slightly different layout, most of the tasks you need to carry out to design a view are common to all types of view.

The designer is split into two areas:

• On the left hand side is a tree with all the fields, related tables and sub views that are available to be used in the view. This is a graphical representation of the data model
• On the right hand side are the fields, tabs and titles used in the view. This is a is the graphical representation of the view

Building a view consists in browsing the data model in the left hand side and dragging fields into the right hand drop areas.

In the left hand tree representing the data model you can:

• Browse the tables that are available: Click on the + sign near the name of a table to see the related tables. Tables have the table icon. When you expand a table you can see sub-views that have been created in that table
• Browse the fields that are available: Click on the + sign near the name of a folder to see the fields it contains. Folders have the folder icon
• Add a field: Drag fields from the data explorer available on the left hand side, to a pane in the right hand side. When you drop the field in a right hand side pane the field cannot be used again. The only exception is when you are designing a filter in which case you can reuse a field multiple times

In the right hand panes representing the view you can:

• Delete a field or a title: Click on the delete icon to delete the field
• Sort and move the fields: Drag and drop the fields to sort them or to move them from one title to another. You can also sort the tabs by dragging and dropping them
• Display the field property page: Click on the type icon (number, calendar, etc.) of the field to display the field property page (see Property page)
• Locate a field: Click on the arrow icon to locate the field in the data model

You can specify several options that determine how the view can be used in the platform.
