The 9-Box grid: Performance and Potential
FollowThe 9-Box grid is a 3×3 matrix that crosses the Performance and Potential values of your employees, giving you an immediate picture of the talents in your company: each employee appears as a photo positioned in the cell matching their values. The feature is available on request: if you don't see it in your account, contact your Altamira representative.
Where you find the 9-Box grid
Depending on your account configuration, the grid can appear in several places:
- As a tab inside the evaluation form (PMP): it shows the position of the evaluated employee only
- As a tab in the employee record: it shows the employee's position based on the values stored on their record
- In the evaluation project dashboard: it shows all the employees evaluated in the project, giving you an overview of how the evaluations went
- In the Report section, as a chart showing the whole company population
The Performance and Potential fields
Performance and Potential are two numeric fields with values from 0 to 3, stored both on the employee record and on the evaluation project (PMP). Enter the values directly in the evaluation form during the process. Employees missing one of the two values do not appear in the grid and are collected in the Unrated area.
Automatic copy between the PMP and the employee record
- When a new PMP is created, the current values on the employee record are copied into the PMP, as a starting point for the new evaluation
- When the PMP is successfully closed, the values evaluated in the PMP are automatically copied back to the employee record
- If a value was not filled in on the PMP, the value already present on the employee record is not deleted
How to use the grid
The grid arranges employees into three bands on each axis — Low (up to 1), Medium (up to 2), High (above 2) — and each employee is represented by their photo. When too many employees fall in the same cell, click the +N badge to browse the full list, search for an employee and open their record. For the complete grid behaviour (bands, Unrated area, side panel, large populations) see Chart view: 9-Box.
Permissions
- To view the 9-Box grid you need the Read permission on the section where it is configured (Evaluation projects or Employees), assigned to your user account
- To enter or edit the Performance and Potential values you need the Write permission on the PMP or on the employee record
- The visibility of the 9-Box tab and of the Performance and Potential fields can be restricted by the view security configuration: for example, employees viewing their own record normally see neither the 9-Box tab nor the two fields
